How do you know if money hates you?

Don’t be surprised to hear that some people don’t know that money hates them. They don’t even know what that means.

I was in that shoe for a long time before I get to realize and I eventually make friends with money.

It is very important to discover a problem first.

This is why you need to know if money hates you or not.

Here we go. Pay close attention and read gently…

“If there are no promising means of income and all you depend on is whatever comes when you ask people for assistance, then money hates you.”

Money hates you when you struggle to get at least one (promising) stream of income.

In other words,

• If you are not getting any tangible monthly or weekly allowance from your parents
• If you are not doing any job that will pay you any salary
• If you don’t have any skill people are willing to pay for
• If you are not investing in anything that is promising returns on investment

Then, money hates you…

If this is you, I am not even trying to make jest of your current situation because it wasn’t too long ago I left that way of life.

For instance

Guys in the university always suffer the most.

No boyfriend to support.

No crush willing to spend in other to prove his love.

Even parents will pay little attention to you compared to the treatment they will give to a lady.

Why?

Because he is a guy. He will sort himself out

How? Where?

I salute the guys who scaled through this time without doing illegal things to make money. For those who switched to illegal means, I hope it will not be too late before they decide to go through the right path.

Let me share a little about my experience back then

I remember those times I have to trek to the campus for lectures. Most times, i have to borrow the handouts of my coursemates to read because I can’t afford to make my copies. It is either I am drinking garri for days or I buy bread and beans – they are the cheapest food to buy.

It was difficult but I scaled through. I graduated as the overall best student

But this doesn’t make money like me still.  After I graduated, things didn’t get better until I understand what I am about to share with you in this article.

I get to understand that…

Money is not in the books or certificates I acquire. Money is in the solution I can provide!

Guess what?

There are some set of people who don’t even know if money hates them or not. Let me share an example with you quickly.

Fela Durotoye talked about a man who has achieved a lot as an employee. This man became a bank manager and was living large but he never knew he was not really on the right path of his creation. He was getting achievement in the wrong direction.

No doubts, he is making money but that is not all but he wasn’t fulfilled. He didn’t know why and he didn’t know how

That was the problem

Just like this man, some people are struggling to make money

They have well-paying jobs but they are not still complete and satisfied.

Please take note of this

There is a difference between making money and when money likes you.

• It is not about how much you have in your account
• It is not about how much you receive as a salary
• It is not about how many cars and houses you possess

Let me explain

A young cybersecurity expert told me his story one day. He got to a stage in his career where he wasn’t bothered about how much a company is willing to pay him because most top companies are begging him to come work for them for a higher pay he can ever think of. It is more like a bid. They all wanted him so badly. He said that they were always in his DM on his LinkedIn account.

What he said after that was the most impressive part of his story for me.

He said,

At this stage of my life, I am more deliberate about the jobs i accept. I hardly stays on job for more than a year.

You know why?

He is so passionate about his growth. As soon as he gets the results he desires in a job, he wants to move to somewhere different entirely. Somewhere to explore new ground.

In the long run, all the experience makes ‘money’ to be his close friend.

As I was saying…

Let me explain how you can make money to be your good friend with a story shared by one of my role models – Fela Durotoye. I also shared it in the podcast.

He said that when he started his business, he wasn’t too bothered about rejections or not getting too many clients because he had a strategy that made things easier. Though he started without a laptop, he was always scaling through. HOW?

He said that there was a day he got a business proposal job. He had already been given a deadline to deliver the job but he has no laptop to prepare the proposal.

So he approached the client and gave him a discount if the client is willing to borrow him (Fela) his laptop to write the proposal.

That was a bold step. It was risky. He could lose that job because the client might think he is not capable enough to do the job.

But what does Fela has to lose?

Nothing much. After all, without a laptop, he will not be able to do the job. I know it is easy to get a laptop today, unlike his own time. He must have thought about several options before he settles for that decision.

If it was my generation, that is enough excuse not to take steps at all. They won’t even bother looking for clients as long as there is no laptop yet.

Is that how to make money run after me?

No! that is not exactly it. It is just a means to an end.

Still talking about Fela Durotoye… Where I am going is how he easily makes money.

He said during his era as a startup, he will write a proposal to top banks in Nigeria on how they can achieve 100% more revenue. Here is how he put it

• He will study a bank to understand the problem they are trying to solve or a target they are trying to reach
• He will work on solutions and strategies to achieve this
• He will write a proposal stating some of these solutions and recommend that the bank should invite him to speak with her employee on ways to achieve these results
• He will send this proposal out to a top decision-maker in the bank

He said he always sends as many as possible every week and at least one will respond.

Guess what?

The bank will call him to come around.

He will speak with their employees and they all will be mind-blown.

That is not all

The bank will go-ahead to meet up the target in no time. Sometimes, they will exceed the target.

AMAZING! Isn’t it?

How much will you pay someone that helped you to increase your revenue from 20billion to 40billion?

Think about it

Now… if I am Fela and I am asking for 1million to speak for 1hour will you say it is too much?
