Let me tell you what clarity means by sharing my experience on this journey

Should I join science, art or commercial class?

Why is career clarity a must for you now

4 things you can do right now if you hate the course you are studying

That was when the need for clarity starts from.

Although, those times, the criteria were that only the brilliant students can join the science class. In fact, if you are a brilliant student, you cannot join anything less than science class unless you hate mathematics.

This must-have changed by now or is it still this way now?

I hope it is not because this is one of the biggest limitations for a student walking towards clarity. It is in fact the first for most people back then.

My cousin is brilliant; he was a science student. Now he is studying building but he has totally lust interest the moment his clarity about his potentials became visible. If he had known 10years ago, he would have been an art student. But will his school even allow that?

Today, I see him struggle to maintain his grade in the university. He is always lamenting. Not that he can’t be serious. If he wants to, he will be the best student in that class. I have seen him done that before in the polytechnic because he hasn’t at this time had an idea that he loved art. The moment he knew and started working on it, he had to change his focus.

career journey

The story above is not as simple as I put it. It is a battle between several things.

Some of which are

  1. Your parents. They are expecting you to make them proud of something you are gradually losing interest in.
  2. How do you explain to your lecturers, coursemates, loved ones, and others looking up to you when your grades begin to drop?
  3. How do you begin to find time to learn your new talent or what you think you should be doing at this time of your life?
  4. How do you deal with constant depressing moments after realizing you have wasted about 24years doing what you won’t really eventually use?
  5. How do you deal with intimidations in this field you are about to delve into after seeing the success of your peers who started this your new journey earlier? Imagine seeing a 14year old doing extremely better than you just because he started earlier.

The list is endless.

It takes so much resilience and a mindset to scale this journey of clarity.

If clarity is not part of your major priority at this moment, think about what battles you are trying to face when you suddenly get into it later.

That is what happens to majority of our fresh graduates.

Some of them won’t start a journey into clarity until they are done with school but in this part of the country where jobs are scarce commodity, it took some of them years before they settle for the journey into clarity while some of them just go for any ridiculous job.

Think about the statement below

“If job is not forthcoming, I need to look inward”

Only a few of these graduates settled for the statement above. I remember a lady, she narrated her story of how she hunted for the job before she finally settled for her writing skills. Today, she is doing very well as a writer.

Just because she looked inward

——

One funny thing about this clarity of a thing is

It will not come out in full at once. It is always a seasoned film and just like we always say in my Yoruba dialect, “there is no final episode. So, you can finish the movie”

Let me explain with my story

I didn’t even have writing in my plan. Never will I believe a prophet about that. I will just be like

“Me? Writing? How? That is not even possible! He must be a fake prophet. How can I be a writer when I don’t know how to express myself? How can someone is picking my weakness over my strength?”

Trust me, I would deny it. At that time, I would rather be a Mathematics teacher or Engineer. The first time I excelled in English Language was during a class activity on Essay. But that was not enough to hint me about my passion for writing

Guess what?

I even tried writing a story back then about my love story with a crush (LOL). But this was not even enough to tell me how close I am to my passion. If it was you, will it be enough hint?

I started gaining Clarity after 2 years of wondering.

I jammed clarity coincidentally. It was not by luck though. It was me putting effort to everything I finds my hands doing.

Do you care to know the end of my story?

I am sure it is a yes – Chuckles

Sometimes in 2016, I was selected to be the Vice President of a Youth church on campus. We already finished a school session at that time. The newly elected leaders were supposed to meet, go home and prepare for the new session. So, my President gave me a task to do over the holiday. She asked me to write bulletins for evangelism.

I haven’t done something like that before but I never rejected it.

That’s one thing to learn when you are on the journey to clarity. Try to be the best in whatever you do. Some of us have lost our way to clarity all in the name of ‘I am looking for money’

It is not always about the money.

Money doesn’t fly. It follows people that have paid the dues.

I didn’t finish the story about my Cousin.

Funny enough, he also discovered the art journey the same year as mine. This time, it was during my service as Vice president. He joined the publicity department and he was working actively.

He started with designing birthday cards for members of the fellowship. That was where he started gaining clarity. That was when he began to develop an interest in artwork. Nothing else hinted at him aside from that. Can you see?

Guess what?

He just sold two of his work internationally in 2021 – United State to be precise. He sold them for $1500. That is 720,000 in Naira. He finished the two artworks in less than 6 hours

Wait!

He didn’t get there so easily

That is 5 years after. Though, he has been making so much from other form of artwork.

—

5 years ago, he knew it was artwork but he never knew what aspect of it would made him go international.

I watched my cousin move from birthday card design to portrait art, then realism and several other things. Today, he is a visual artist.

Can you sense his journey into clarity at all?

There are two things involved

  1. Getting to know your path
  2. Walking to get there

Knowing is just the beginning. You will need to put so much effort to gain more clarity. My cousin will spend so much money on art materials without thinking of making the money back from artwork.

You will have to pay a lot of sacrifices to figure it out.

 Oh!

I am yet to finish my own story too. pardon me.

While I was trying to write the bulletin, I started to feel the urge to write a book. Right on that spot, I took a new notebook and began to write. I was so inspired that I wrote so many numbers of pages.

Same day, I left the book I was writing and started another one. That was it.

I remember how I felt that day. I felt complete.

I never stopped and I never gave excuses.

Today,

  • That writing has brought over 10,000 people close to me.
  • That writing is now one of my major sources of income.
  • That writing has helped so many people

Let me tell you a blunt fact

If anyone asks you to choose between clarity and 1million, choose clarity.
